What Institution Would Make Our Thriller

I believe that if a professional studio chose to work with us on our thriller sequence it would be Paramount Pictures. My reason for this is that Paramount Pictures is widely recognised for funding some of the best thrillers ever produced. Since the beginning of the second millennium paramount has funded three distinct films that offer their audiences entertainment similar to that which our group is trying to construct within our thriller. Our thriller will almost definitely contain the characteristic of a mystery, crime, and psychological film. Thus the three films that represent why Paramount Pictures would produce our thriller are Shutter Island, Zodiac and Collateral. First of all the psychological thriller Shutter Island, a film about a man who realises that he is a delusional patient at a recreational centre for the mentally sick. In our thriller our main character is an assassin which has to manage a number of emotions such as self-control and anger. We will place emphasis on our main characters emotional state through the use of mise-en-scene, sounds and the use of close-ups. Things are done similarly in the film Shutter Island, which is why in my opinion Paramount might be interested in the following aspect of our production. Continuing the film Collateral is a film about  an assassin that interacts with an everyday taxi driver. Due to our sequence exploring the genre of crime by portraying the husband and wife as assassins, our film in certain ways relates to the way that 

Collateral is presented which is another reason why the studio would of have been interested in taking part in our production. Finally the film Zodiac is a mystery-thriller which explores the mystery of a criminal in the U.S.A. Our film is similarly a mystery in the sense that the audience gradually discover who the protagonist and his wife are, as well as the contractor who appears on the couples front porch. In general our thriller possesses psychological, mystery and crime features which  in  ways are similar to the following three pieces of media.  By displaying the similarity between this films and our future production I think it is fair to say that Paramount Pictures would be a mayor studio that would be interested in the production of our film.

Thriller - Storyboard

A storyboard is a graphic organiser in the form of illustrations displayed in a sequence for the purpose of pre-visualising a motion picture, film, and animation. In our team I took it upon myself to create the storyboard, as I am the only student in my group that practices Art as a subject. I used my imagination together with suggestions from my group to create a storyboard that represents the sequence that we are going to film as well as in what way we will partially film it. I did this by creating three drafts of the storyboard. After each draft our team would go over what it is that we could either include or take out of the storyboard. Subsequently I would draw the next draft until I have drawn my third drat which became our final draft. The storyboard is a crucial part of preparing for a shooting of a sequence as it gives the overall idea of what the shoot might look like without the necessity of actually shooting anything, or spending huge amounts of budget on creating a test shoot. Furthermore the storyboard serves as a rough outline for the director and the camera crew as to what will be shot, and in what way it will be shot.In general I feel like I have carried out this task in a successful manor, which helped our group greatly in preparing to shoot out thriller sequence/introduction.

Use and Why of Stroyboards

A storyboard is an important step in the creation of a media product. Not only does a storyboard aid in the visualization of a media product but in certain cases it also serves as an advertisement for the creation of a media product. For instance a media production company desires to fund a media piece and invites people to come and represent their ideas to them. A good storyboard is a key feature in representing your idea in an easily understandable manner that everyone can follow without the use of a budget and may land you the fund for the creation of that media pieces. In other cases as I just stated a storyboard simply visualizes an idea without the use of a budget. Moreover when shooting for a media piece begins the filming crew can always refer back to the storyboard and shot list to know in what way to capture a scene and /or film a shot/sequence. Ending a storyboard is simply an essential part of any media production, either prior to or during the production.

Thriller - Final Pitch

After a huge amount of preparations we pitched our thriller sequence idea to our media producers. We clearly outlined the idea that we have generated as a group by presenting our mind-map, test-shoot, and storyboard. In addition to the following we spoke about what it is we would like our thriller to represent and in what way we would like it to represent those aspects. After we have finished pitching our idea our media producers responded with compliments and particular suggestions. For instance one of our producers proposed that we have a prolonged scene of the wife cutting fruits followed by her stabbing the kitchen knife into the table. Through the correct use of camera angles/shot together with the appropriate sounds we could build tension towards the point at which the wife stabs the kitchen table, thus creating a jump scare in our thriller. Our team thought that that was a brilliant suggestion and implemented it into the script. Furthermore our producer’s spoke with us about what lightning we might want to use as well as what actors we have been thinking about casting. Although we disagreed upon certain issues together with our producers we settled upon an agreed version of the thriller that we would be allowed to film within the near future. In conclusion I think that the pitch added onto our idea and that it was a positive experience overall.

Thriller - Pitch

A couple of days after filming the test shoot and coming up with a finalised version of the thriller sequence our team had the opportunity to pitch to two experienced members of staff at our educational facility before pitching to our producer in the near future. On the whole our idea has been received well. We listened closely to what our lecturer had to say about our concept and were happy to find out that he had both loved the idea as well as thought that there should be no problem filming it given our possible filming locations. I believe that our group’s success was largely due to the fact that we came up with an idea that could be filmed within our time and location parameters, while at the same time being somewhat interesting and possessing tension building characteristics. In general I think this experience allowed my team and me to improve upon our preparation skills when it comes to creating something that has to fit within certain boundaries.
