As
our group is nearing its shooting date we have began deciding upon certain major
factor of the shoot. One of eh following factors is location/set. Due to our
educational institution being far away from any urban areas we had some
troubles finding the appropriate location to shoot our thriller. Although after
some time our team found a location at which it would be appropriate for us to
shoot. This location would the house of one of our staff members at our
educational facility. We respectfully asked that member of staff would it be
okay to shoot at his house and were politely given that opportunity. The
location worked well for us because it was close to our educational facility,
which means it will be simple for us to transport our filming equipment and props
there. Furthermore the house is spacious which means it will be easy for us to
set up our equipment and capture some fantastic shots in the small time frame
that we have available to shoot. Another benefit of the following location is
that it possesses a kitchen, bedroom, and well laid out front porch, which is
exactly the locations we want to utilize during our shoot. Ultimately I do not
think we could of have found a better location to shoot our thriller at that is
in close proximity to our educational facility.

Similar Media Products
Even
through our group hopes to film a thriller sequence that will be original and surprising, there are certain aspects within our thriller concept that mimic other media
products. In other words although the storyline that we have produced is unique
there are aspects within the mise-en-scene, sound, editing style, and camera
angles/shots that we hope to use that have been used well in other media
products. Two media pieces that I personally believe are similar in a way to
our thriller sequence are the film fight club and the thriller Se7en.
Fight Club is a 1999 psychological thriller/drama
directed by David Fincher, starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. The film is
honored for its complex plot, thought provoking quotes and ending twist. In my
opinion this film reflects some of the aspects that we’d like to capture within
our sequence. First of all the film is edited in a slowly paced manner, this
allows the audience to analyse the mise-en-scene and dialogue carefully. I think
that our thriller will look similarly as our build up towards the shoot outside
will be gradual and built upon by hints and actions revealed throughout the
carefully planned out sequence. Moreover we would like to capture the audience
with our thriller by using increasingly louder soundtracks and different types
of panning shots. That is exactly what Fight Club does and it is what we will
certainly utilize. Moreover there is a twist present in Fight Club that is surprising
and astonishing. I think that through our twist we would like to achieve the
same type of reaction in our audience that is another similarity between our
future media product and Fight Club.
Se7en is a on the other hand a 1995 psychological
Thriller as well directed by David Fincher. I think based upon the following
two media pieces it can be said that our sequence will possess a sense of
affinity towards Fincher’s style.
Similarly to Fight Club Se7en is paced slowly and is very detailed in
its use of Mise-en-Scene and sounds when it comes to dialogue. So once again
this are the exact aspects our group will try to capture within our sequence
Additionally Se7en uses strong contrast and lightning to produce a sense of
mystery as well as build tension and suspense throughout the film. Our group
will similarly try to incorporate lighting to create strong contrasts and over
the course of the sequence to change the appearance of the characters and
situation that they are from light towards a more thrilling and contrasting dimness.
I think that this are the similarities present between our future production
and Se7en that we had hoped to incorporate before even realizing that they
reflect Flinchers style so much. Although I think that it is a good thing that
our groups thriller concept reflects aspects of some of the most amazing
thriller ever produced.

What Institution Would Make Our Thriller
I believe that if a
professional studio chose to work with us on our thriller sequence it would be
Paramount Pictures. My reason for this is that Paramount Pictures is widely
recognised for funding some of the best thrillers ever produced. Since the beginning
of the second millennium paramount has funded three distinct films that
offer their audiences entertainment similar to that which our group is trying
to construct within our thriller. Our thriller will almost definitely contain
the characteristic of a mystery, crime, and psychological film. Thus the three films
that represent why Paramount Pictures would produce our thriller are Shutter Island, Zodiac and Collateral. First of all the psychological thriller Shutter Island, a film about a man who realises that he is a delusional patient at a recreational centre for the mentally sick. In our thriller our main character is an assassin which has to manage a number of emotions such as self-control and anger. We will place emphasis on our main characters emotional state through the use of mise-en-scene, sounds and the use of close-ups. Things are done similarly in the film Shutter Island, which is why in my opinion Paramount might be interested in the following aspect of our production. Continuing the film Collateral is a film about an assassin that interacts with an everyday taxi driver. Due to our sequence exploring the genre of crime by portraying the husband and wife as assassins, our film in certain ways relates to the way that
Collateral is presented which is another reason why the studio would of have been interested in taking part in our production. Finally the film Zodiac is a mystery-thriller which explores the mystery of a criminal in the U.S.A. Our film is similarly a mystery in the sense that the audience gradually discover who the protagonist and his wife are, as well as the contractor who appears on the couples front porch. In general our thriller possesses psychological, mystery and crime features which in ways are similar to the following three pieces of media. By displaying the similarity between this films and our future production I think it is fair to say that Paramount Pictures would be a mayor studio that would be interested in the production of our film.
